Privacy Policy

The short version

You don't need an account. We don't sell data, run credit checks, or pass anything to dealers. Your quiz answers are sent to our server to be scored and are not written to a database. The only personal detail we ever handle is an email address, and only if you ask us to email your results.

1. Who runs this site

This site is not run by a registered company, and none of its uses are commercial. It is a hobby project.

2. Your quiz answers

While you take the quiz, your answers are saved in your own browser's local storage so you can close the tab and come back to it. They stay on your device until you restart the quiz or clear your browser data.

When you reach the results page, those answers are sent to our server so the ranking can be worked out there. To be precise about what that means:

• They are held in memory only for the length of that one request
• They are not written to a database, a log file, or any analytics tool
• They are not linked to your email address, even if you later ask for results by email
• They are never shared with dealers, manufacturers, or advertisers

None of the questions we ask identify you. We do not ask for your name, address, phone number, date of birth, or vehicle registration.

3. Emailing your results

The results page has an optional box for sending your shortlist to yourself. This is the only place the site asks for a personal detail, and it is entirely optional. You can read and use every result without entering one.

If you do use it:

• Your email address and your list of matched cars are sent to our server
• Both are passed straight to our email provider so the message can be delivered
• Neither is kept on our server once the message has been sent
• You are not added to a mailing list, and we will not email you again

Our email provider keeps its own delivery records, in the same way any email service does.

4. Your IP address

The site holds your IP address in memory for a few minutes to limit how many requests one visitor can make in a short window. This is what stops the site being used to send bulk email. Those entries expire on their own and are never connected to your answers.

Like any website, the web server in front of the application also records requests in its own access log, which includes IP addresses. Those logs exist so that faults and abuse can be investigated. They are not used for analytics, marketing, or profiling, and they are not shared with anyone.

5. Analytics

We run Umami, an open-source analytics tool, on our own server. It is not Google Analytics, and nothing is sent to a third-party analytics company. It only runs at all if you agreed to it on the notice shown on your first visit; if you did not, the script is never loaded. It records:

• Which pages were viewed, and in what order
• Rough device type, browser, and country
• The site that linked you here, if any

It sets no cookies, does not build a profile of you, and cannot follow you to other websites. Your quiz answers are never included in analytics data.

6. Cookies

This site sets no cookies at all, which is why you have not been shown a cookie banner. The browser storage described in section 2 is local storage, not a cookie, and it is never sent to us automatically.

7. Third parties

Fonts and images are served from this domain, so loading a page does not reveal your visit to an outside service. The only third party involved anywhere on the site is the email provider described in section 3, and only when you choose to email yourself results. There are no advertising networks, no tracking pixels, no embedded social media, and no affiliate links.

8. Your rights under UK GDPR

You have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

In practice there is very little to act on. There is no account to delete and no record connecting you to a past quiz. To remove your answers from your own device, restart the quiz or clear your browser storage for this site.

9. Children

The site is aimed at people old enough to hold a UK driving licence, since that is who buys a car. It is nonetheless suitable for children: there is nothing here unsuitable for any age, no advertising, and nothing that collects information about whoever is reading it.

10. Changes to this policy

If the site starts handling data differently, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change. Our Terms of Service cover the rest of the legal position.
