How a car gets to the top of your list
There is no black box here. Your answers become two things: rules that rule cars out, and weights that order what is left.
Set your budget
Cash up front or a monthly figure, whichever you actually think in. If you are not sure yet, you can skip it and everything stays in the running.
Say how you drive
Weekly mileage, motorway or town, where the car sits overnight, how many people and child seats it needs to take.
Read the ranking
Anything that fails a hard requirement is filtered out and the rest is scored on the preferences you gave. Each car shows what suits you and what does not.
What the scoring actually does
Hard answers filter
Budget, seat count and towing weight remove cars outright. The results page names the answer that removed them.
Soft answers rank
Boot space, running cost, comfort and reliability are weighted and scored, so a near miss still appears.
Same answers, same order
The scoring is fixed rules, not a model. Two people who answer identically get an identical list.
Nothing is paid for
No manufacturer, dealer or broker can pay to move up the list, because there is nobody to pay.
Where the monthly figure comes from
Every monthly estimate on the site uses the same three assumptions, applied to the model's price band:
- A 10% deposit over a 48-month term
- 7.9% APR below £20,000, 9.9% at or above it
- No credit check, so your own rate will differ
Change any of those three and the number changes, which is why it is an illustration rather than a quote.
